The National Conferences of IAWS usually include a South Asian panel and there is an increasing interest in other Asian countries as well. In 1985, IAWS collaborated with the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) and the International Sociological Association in holding an Asian Regional Conference on ‘Women and the Household’. Participants included scholars and activists from many Asian countries, as well as Asian studies specialists from Africa, Europe, Latin America and USA.
